Scenic Bay St. Lawrence Nova Scotia Canada VacationThis was on of the most peaceful drives on Cape Breton Island. We'd just come out of the rugged highlands, that was mostly mountains and occasional sea, and now on our drive to Meat Cove we saw mostly coastline.
On the northernmost tip of Cape Breton Island we leave the park temporarily to drive out to Meat Cove which is, what appears to be, the actual northern tip of the island.
In order to get there we go up to Cape North and Bay St. Lawrence and then further north until we run out of paved roads.
The road may be intimidating, but there's not near as treacherous as the coastal roads that go around Mt. Haleakala on Maui. The scenery is somewhere in between the clockwise route to Hana and the counterclockwise.
At St. Lawrence Bay there wasn't alot of touristy type stuff, which didn't disappoint me. We saw boats and fishermen and lots of birds. It was a glimpse of normal daily life on the coastal regions of the Canadian maritimes.
